The University of Rochester Medical Center is looking for volunteers to help test vaccines for a strain of the bird flu.
They'll test two different vaccines, looking to find out which does a better job protecting against H7N9, that's a new strain of the bird flu that was identified in China earlier this year.
Researchers say no cases have been identified in the U.S. as of now. This is very unique research right now. The government shutdown has put a stop to much of the medical research across the country, but because this is so critical, the work continues at URMC.
Dr. John Treanor, URMC, said, "People recognize that this particular strain of bird flu has potential to spread outside of China and that we need to be prepared and ready to go against it."'
Volunteers must be between 18 and 49 years old, in good health, not pregnant, not asthmatic and not allergic to eggs. For more information, call 585-273-3990.
