The tallest building in Buffalo now has a new name.
WIVB-TV reports that the Buffalo Common Council voted Tuesday to approve the renaming of the HSBC Tower to One Seneca Tower.
The new name is a reference to the 38-story tower's location on Seneca Street and its owner, Seneca One Realty.
The company applied for a name change because some 2,000 HSBC employees will have moved out of the downtown tower by the end of this month. HSBC Bank USA announced late last year that it would vacate the tower in 2013 and relocate employees to another downtown building and an office in suburban Depew.
Crews removed HSBC signs from the sides of the tower last month.
A law firm that's the tower's second-largest tenant is also relocating to a downtown site.
