It’s a brand-new start for one local family. Flower City Habitat for Humanity dedicated their newest home to a Rochester family on Friday.
Nelson Galletti and Vanice Rosario, along with their children, were given the keys to their home on Whitney Street today.
Along with the physical keys, the family is given symbolic keys -- a hammer -- to symbolize the hard work that went into the home and a bible to symbolize the faith needed to make the home successful.
The new homeowners say this next step is a relief. Galletti said, “It’s an overwhelming feeling, a very overwhelming feeling. Now I don't have to pay rent or wait for a landlord to come fix something when it's broken. Now I can fix it myself.”
Nelson and Vanice will have a 30-year commitment to pay the mortgage on that home but she got a special surprise when Nelson got on one knee at today's dedication and asked for a lifetime commitment from her.
Congratulations to the entire family!
