A Rochester man accused of abusing his dog was in court Thursday. He says things are not as they appear.

Fifty-eight-year-old Brett Neil pleaded not guilty Thursday morning. Video was taken by a neighbor who claims he witnessed Neil abusing the dog.

Investigators say he sprayed the dog and hit it with a rake. However, Neil says he was washing the dog because there was some feces on the dog. He claims he then noticed the dog headed back to the area and tried to stop her. Neil says he accidentally hit the dog and didn't realize what was going on until he saw the video of himself on TV.

Neil is due back in court next week.
