A new report from the Center for Disease Control highlights what many parents aren't aware of. The flu can be fatal to children, even if they are healthy.
CDC researchers found most of the 830 children who died from flu-related causes between 2004 and 2012 had not gotten the flu vaccine. Although the perception is that only sick children are at risk of dying from the flu, 43 percent of these deaths were kids who were healthy with no high-risk medical conditions.
The CDC recommends all children six months or older get a flu shot every year because any child can be at risk for severe flu-related complications.
