Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. It was the topic of a luncheon hosted by the American Heart Association.
The Go Red for Women Luncheon was held at the Riverside Convention Center Wednesday afternoon. Red Wings owner Naomi Silver is serving as this year's Go Red for Women Campaign Chair.
She says the level of awareness women have about heart disease has grown in recent years, but there's still a long way to go.
Naomi Silver, Go Red for Women 2013 Chair, said, " You are much more aware these days when you are having a problem or potential problems of the risks associated with lifestyle and other factors, genetic factors, we just need to be more cognizant of what is happening and it is events like these today that bring that awareness right to the forefront."
Officials say more women die of heart disease in a year that the next four causes of death combined, including cancer. For more information on heart disease, click here.
