If you have children still riding in a car seat, you need to know that there are some changes being made to regulations when it comes to installing that car seat in your back seat.
The new rules relate to something known as "latch", lower anchors and tethers for children. Currently, those lower anchors are tucked into the back seat cushions. Under the new rules, car seat makers will be required to tell parents not to use those lower anchors if the child and car seat weigh at least 65 pounds combined.
So you'll now see labels on the car seat listing the individual weight of the seat. But we're told the changes will not require you to buy a new car seat.
State Police, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and other local agencies offer free car seat checks. To find one near you, click here.
