News10NBC has learned that a Wayne County bus driver was arrested for drinking and driving just hours after the district superintendent says she was pulled off her bus by the school district.
The superintendent of Wayne Central Schools say the district is conducting an internal investigation into 45-year-old Julynn Criscuolo.
The Macedon Police Department says she was involved in a head-on crash on Route 350 near Eddy Road Wednesday night. Following that crash, she was charged with driving while ability impaired.
The district says she has worked as a bus driver and trainer for the past nine years.
Macedon Police tell News10NBC that Wednesday, around 6:30 p.m. Criscuolo was drunk and under the influence of pain medication when the car she was driving crossed the center line and struck another car head-on. The 64-year-old woman driving the other vehicle is currently at Strong Memorial Hospital in satisfactory condition, but police say she suffered serious injuries.
We spoke with the Superintendent Renee Garrett who says on Wednesday, before the crash, Criscuolo was pulled off her bus by district officials. Garrett wouldn't tell us why, but did say there is now an internal investigation. Because this is a personal matter, the superintendent wouldn't say what Criscuolo's current status is with the district.
Superintendent Garrett told News10NBC in a statement:
"Julynn Criscuolo is a bus driver that works in the Transportation Department. The Wayne Central School District administration was notified that the employee was involved in a two vehicle accident, outside of work hours. District officials have been and will continue to work in cooperation with authorities. In following the appropriate district policy and administrative procedure, we have removed the employee from all safety sensitive functions."
Macedon Police tell News10NBC that she is still in Wayne County Jail. We are told this is a joint investigation with the Macedon Police Department and State Police. Law enforcement sources tell us that Criscuolo could face addition charges.
We will continue to track this story and bring you updates as soon as we get them.
