Mayoral candidate Lovely Warren has gotten a major endorsement Saturday morning. The support is coming all the way from Albany.
Governor Andrew Cuomo calls Lovely Warren "A proven and inspirational leader." Saturday morning Cuomo announced his endorsement of the City Council President, saying they share a common goal of “Helping Rochester be the very best it can be."
This endorsement comes just one day after County Executive Maggie Brooks surprised Warren by throwing her support behind the Democratic candidate.
Warren and Green Party candidate Alex White were out and about Saturday. It was a busy, busy day for all of the candidates as the clock winds down towards Election Day. It rained for most of the day, but that did not stop the political push for Rochester's top spot.
First stop was at Lovely Warren's headquarters on Waring Road. News10NBC is told almost 200 volunteers combed through neighborhoods going door to door, trying to motivate voters. They spent hours campaigning, making phone calls and delivering lawn signs throughout the community.
News10NBC caught up with Lovely Warren who joined her supporters throughout the day, also going door to door. She says the campaigning efforts will continue until the very last moment.
“We just have a couple of more days and we just have to continue to do the work. We have a great team that's going out and doing the door knocking and doing the work and that's what we're looking forward to,” said Warren.
Lovely Warren wasn't the only candidate that was out in full force Saturday. News10NBC stopped by Green Party candidate Alex White's headquarters on Monroe Avenue.
White had a number of supporters who were making calls around the clock, trying to wheel in those undecided voters. White says he has been campaigning throughout the day, making appearances at popular locations like the Public Market. He also spent the day canvasing through neighborhoods.
White tells News10NBC he's hoping his efforts this weekend can bring more voters to the polls.
“The only vote for a change is a vote for Alex White. Everything else is a vote for the status quo. The status quo is about failing schools, rising poverty and tax breaks for the wealthiest of our society. That is what my opponents are offering, more of that. If you think we're headed in the wrong direction, Alex White is your only option,” said White.
Supporters of Mayor Tom Richards, who is on the Independent ballot, were also campaigning on his behalf. They spent the day posting signs and also canvassing through neighborhoods.
The group “Turn Out for Tom,” has been pushing for his re-election for the last few weeks. They say they plan to keep on supporting him right up until Election Day. Their motto, Rochester needs Richards.
“He's a great mayor. He's a real stand up guy. He's started a lot of great projects in the city and we would like to see him continue as mayor and continue to finish those projects,” said Tom Cray, “Turn Out for Tom” member.
Just a reminder Election Day is on Tuesday.
