A Wayne Central High School employee was arrested after sheriff's deputies say she showed up to work intoxicated.
April L. Roods, 39, of Webster, is charged with DWI and driving with a blood alcohol content of over 0.08 percent. Roods is an English Teacher at Wayne Central High School.
Sheriff's Deputies were called to the Wayne Central High School after they received a call from the school district saying that Roods arrived to work in an intoxicated state. School officials say she was removed from her first period classroom and taken into custody. Investigators found that Roods was intoxicated when she drove to work.
The District says they are awaiting the outcome of the sheriff’s investigation as well as conducting an internal investigation. The district released a statement saying, "It is important to keep in mind that Ms. Roods, like all citizens, is presumed innocent of any wrongdoing and it has yet to be determined exactly what happened. We are taking all required and prudent steps to ensure the welfare and safety of our students while at the same time maintaining Ms. Roods’ rights. The District also has been cooperating and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities. "
Roods was given an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Ontario Court.
This is the same district where a bus driver was charged with DWI after a crash last week.
