A Livingston County sheriff’s deputy is being credited with saving a woman whose home caught fire.
Investigators say they were called to Sutton Road in Avon around 1 a.m. Tuesday. When deputies arrived, the woman, 59-year-old Diane Vonglis, was hanging out of a second-floor window.
News10NBC is told Deputy Timothy Sweeting got into the garage, grabbed a ladder and used it to save the woman. Deputies say Vonglis was not seriously hurt and was treated for smoke inhalation at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Investigators tell us the fire was caused by a stove that was in self-cleaning mode.
