It was their chosen duty to protect all of us, and some of them were at work doing that, when they lost their lives.
Tuesday, a candlelight vigil was held honoring all members of law enforcement who have died over the past year.
Genesee Valley Concerns Of Police Survivors held the memorial, at Christ Episcopal Church on East Avenue.
Webster Police Lieutenant Mike Chiapperini who was killed in the Christmas Eve ambush was honored, along with State Trooper Ross Riley who died in a training accident, just days ago.
The President of the organization, Ellen Guerdat, says they do this every year to help those who are left behind.
“This is a hard time of year for anyone who has lost a loved one. Whether it’s a family member or a coworker, holidays are very tough for the survivors.”
K-9 officers were also honored at tonight's vigil, including "Ape" who was killed while police were searching for a shooting suspect in Herkimer County last march.
