It's a chance to make the holiday special for some children going through a rough time this year.
The Rochester Police and Rochester Fire Departments, along with the some people from the religious community, came together to reach out to children through the Alternatives for Battered Women Program.
The toys will be given to children who families have been devastated by domestic violence. Organizers say many of them stay in safety shelters with their mothers.
Jamie Saunders, ABW CEO, said, “The families come to us with literally a bag of belongings. This is a way not only to provide a toy, but to provide a gift of love that the community thinks about these children, that we care about these children and it's providing a gift of childhood.”
