45-thousand multi-colored LED lights are twinkling bright on the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City.
The 76 foot Norway spruce pine was lit for the first time Wednesday in the 81st annual tree-lighting ceremony, a tradition that dates back to the great depression.
The 75-year-old tree was donated by the Vangoshe family from Shelton, Connecticut and is topped with a 550-pound Swarovski star comprised of 25-thousand crystals.
The celebration featured musical performances by Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson, Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, the Goo Goo Dolls, Ariana Grande and Jewel.
The tree will remain lit and can be viewed until 11 pm on January 7th, 2014.
