The price of milk could be going up in the New Year. Come January, consumers may be paying as much as $7 to $8 a gallon for milk.
Congress has been working on passing a new farm bill that would prevent such a price hike, however, it's still on the table. The current farm subsidies which have kept dairy prices relatively stable since the 1940's are set to expire unless a deal is reached before the end of the year.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national average for a gallon of milk is about $3.46.
