It's an annual award to honor community organizations improving health care in our area. On Thursday, the 2013 Howard Berman Prize was handed out.
This year's award went to a group called Cancer Wellness Connections. The organization helps to provide diversionary activities for patients undergoing cancer treatments, things like personal training, yoga, manicures, books and puzzles.
The group received $10,000 in prize money.
Eileen Grossman, Cancer Wellness Connections, said, "The money will enable us to augment the program in the four units we're in, which is hard right now because donations are down everywhere so we are thrilled with this award."
Cancer Wellness Connections was founded seven years ago. Ithelps between 10,000 and 12,000 patients undergoing treatment for cancer each year.
