The Pennsylvania Treasury Department says JPMorgan Chase told it that hackers gained access to the personal information of about 465,000 cardholders nationwide.
JPMorgan Chase did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
But the Treasury Department said JPMorgan disclosed the breach when it informed the agency that some potential victims include 26,000 Pennsylvanians who use the bank's debit cards to receive jobless and workers' compensation benefits.
It says Chase wouldn't explain how the breach occurred and that it said it has referred it to law enforcement. The department also said Chase told it that it had found no evidence that the information was used improperly.
It says the breach affects only cardholders who used the J.P. Morgan Chase UCard Center website between mid-July and mid-September.
