The goal was to brightening the day of patients at Golisano Children's Hospital, and a group of medical students at the U of R made that happen.
The group is called Students Doing Art. It features first and second year medical students getting involved with patients at Golisano, bringing unique events to them each Friday. Today, it involved a performance from an A-Cappella group of med students.
The group performed holiday tunes for some of the patients today. We spoke to Jamie Tyrell, one of the members of the group about why this is a worthwhile experience.
"It’s wonderful, especially here when we get to sing for patients and see the joy music can bring to everybody's life. It’s always so exciting to see how engaged the kids get with the familiar songs."
Students doing art has also featured improv groups and dance troops performing for the kids, as well as hands-on activities like painting and board game making.
