It’s a way to remember a city school teacher killed in a car crash, and carry on his legacy teaching children.
Friday, members of the Scott Spino Foundation were at St. Lawrence School in Greece to donate books to the kindergarten students there. It’s part of the Scott Spino literacy program. Spino was a popular city school teacher who was hit and killed by a drunk driver back in 2004.
He was passionate about his students and that passion is passed on through the work of the foundation.
Scott’s dad, Jerry Spino said, "It’s a beautiful thing to see smiles on their faces, especially this time of year, or any time of year, these kids at this age. It’s an amazing thing for me because I was trying to think back to my kids when they were that age but it's just a wonderful, wonderful thing to see."
500 students received books, and to date, more than 10,000 books have been handed out to students in our area thanks to the foundation
