Some local soldiers were recognized Saturday for their service to our country.

The 39 Army National Guard members performed more than 470 life-saving missions in Afghanistan. They returned home in August after being deployed there.

The soldiers received flags and other awards at the Greater Rochester International Airport this morning in recognition of their efforts.

“It's just an amazing set of people that really work hard. It's a very true sense of family, so for them to be recognized as a family, I think it was really helpful, especially in front of the families, because a lot of times the families are the ones left at home and they don't get the recognition,” said Major James Pridgen, U.S. Army National Guard.

News10NBC would like to thank all of those soldiers for their service.
