What’s the key to staying young as you age? If you are one local man, it’s bowling four times a week.

Tom Pisano will celebrate his 100th birthday this Thursday. He’s been bowling in leagues in the Rochester area since 1947. Now he bowls in leagues three nights a week at Empire Lanes and practices there on a fourth night.

His best game came a few years ago. He bowled a 289 when he was 97 years old.

We asked him what it is about bowling that keeps his interest. He said, “I used to run a lot. I can’t do that anymore. I loved baseball. I can’t play baseball anymore. I stick to bowling to get some exercise. It keeps me around.”

Pisano says he was the captain of the track team at Franklin High School back in the day and these days, besides bowling, he also likes to hit up the golf course in the summer.

As far as any other secrets to staying in shape at his age, he says he simply eats whatever his wife cooks and helps out around the house when he can.
