Crews were on the scene of a fire Monday evening in the Neighborhood of the Arts that firefighters say was caused by a child.
The Rochester Fire Department was called to Arlington Street off of University Avenue around 5:50 p.m. for a report of a fire.
When firefighters arrived a woman reported her child was missing. But after a search, firefighters learned that the child had been taken away from the home earlier.
It took crews 23 minutes to get the fire under control. Officials say the size of the building and the search made the fire more difficult to fight. The fire started on the first floor and extended to the second and third floors.
Firefighters say the fire was caused by a "five year old playing with a lighter." News10NBC is told eight adults and two children were displaced.
