It’s one of the most anticipated sporting events to come to Rochester this year and one of the most unique that we’ve seen in a long time.
The Frozen Frontier is a 10-day outdoor hockey festival at Frontier Field. Crews have been working for weeks to turn the baseball field into a hockey rink.
On Friday, the Rochester Amerks will take on the Lake Erie Monsters in the first-ever outdoor game in franchise history. There is also a Sabres and Amerks alumni game set for Sunday.
Rink construction started on November 19 and crews have worked every day expect for Thanksgiving and it is now complete. Dave Fies, VP of Operations for Rink Specialists says the ice is game ready and the first game will be amongst members of the media – television taking on print.
The biggest challenge was painting the ice which took place last week during the freezing rain. Normally that process takes a half a day but to paint this rink took three days. Now the men and women who put the rink together can sit back and relax for the most part.
