The anticipation for the Frozen Frontier is building. There's three more days until the Amerks host Lake Erie in the outdoor classic, but the first event was held Tuesday night.

Media professionals, including some of our co-workers here at News10NBC, faced off against each other Tuesday night.

Construction on the rink started on November 19. Crews worked 12 hours days and their only day off was for Thanksgiving. The ice is now game ready and the first game was not the Amerks, was not a college team or even a high school. It was the media.

Television, radio and print had the privilege of getting the Frozen Frontier started and there were guys on the ice that could flat out play.

The white team consisted of News10NBCand the Democrat and Chronicle. The blue team consisted of channels 8, 13 and radio.

News10NBC's Berkely Brean represented Canada well with a goal and assists. Stephen Bond had a goal. Our producer Mitch Bellucco was the goalie. He even stopped Amerks legend Jody Gage. Our assignment editor Kevin Rhoney was out there. Sports anchor Justin Granit even took to the ice for the second time on skates in his life.

The white team wad down 5-3 entering the third period, because of three goals for Gage, but the team stormed back scoring seven unanswered and won 10-5.

“This is going to sound like an exasperation, but you just remember back to those New Year's Day games in Buffalo and in Pittsburgh and Chicago, and you kind of get a little bit of a thrill that you made the same walk they did. That's what it felt like, walking through the tunnel,” said News10NBC's Berkeley Brean.

The crew was all smiles Tuesday afternoon because the ice rink is now complete.

The biggest challenge was painting the ice which took place last week during the freezing rain. Normally that process takes a half a day but to paint this rink took three days. Now the men and women who put the rink together can sit back and relax for the most part.

Here is a look at the Frozen Frontier festivities. The 10-day event will get underway with the Amerks hosting Lake Erie in the outdoor classic on Friday. On Saturday RIT's men's and women's hockey will play. Sunday is a can't miss for Sabers fans. It's the annual alumni game. Corporate skates will be held throughout the week. Then next weekend the high school teams will face their rivals out here.
