Women with late-stage breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body may not benefit from radiation and surgery.
Researchers in India studied 350 women with metastatic breast cancer. All the patients had chemotherapy, and half had a full or partial mastectomy followed by radiation.
Doctors found those who had surgery and radiation did not have an additional health benefit.
In fact, there was some proof that removing the primary tumor in the breast triggered the growth of the other tumors in the body.
Researchers say they need more studies in this area.
