The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says an Ontario man was charged with attempted murder after he shot at another man and hit him with a baseball bat.

Deputies say 32-year-old Peter Palombi is charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault. Investigators say Palombi was involved in an altercation with Ronald Gonyeau on Ontario Center Road in Ontario Saturday night around 10:50 p.m.

During that incident, deputies say Palombi hit the Gonyeau with a baseball bat and fired a rifle at the him. However, officials tell News10NBC that Gonyeau suffered only minor injuries as a result of the attack.

Palombi was arrested at his home and taken to Wayne County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Ontario Court at a later date to answer charges.
