December 16 is the busiest mailing day of the year. Some local post officers opened Sunday in preparation.
Post office staff want to remind you to keep track of all the deadlines so your letters, cards and packages make it in time for the holidays.
U.S. Postal Services Spokesperson Karen Mazurkiewicz said, “If you're sending out your holiday cards you want to get them in the mail by Friday the 20th, if you're sending out packages you can send them through priority mail by Saturday the 21st and we do have our premiere product, Priority Express mail, you can put things in the mail by Monday the 23rd. It's a premium product so it comes at a premium price, so generally the longer you wait, the less your options and it might cost you a little more."
Nationwide, the U.S. Postal Service expects to process about 670-million letters, cards and packages today.
