News10NBC got a sneak peak behind the scenes at the U.S. Postal Service's Distribution Center.
The facility on Lyell Avenue is expected to serve as one of the western New York plants where mail for Buffalo, Rochester, Jamestown, Elmira and Syracuse will be sorted. Most of the items for those areas from other parts of the country will stop at the facility first. The site is expected to handle nearly half a million packages this holiday season alone.
Ignatius Vaccaro, acting plant manager, said, "Package delivery explodes this time of year. Today will actually be our busiest time to being yesterday was our heaviest originating day. Most of those packages people mailed yesterday went out of here last night. People did that all over the country so those packages are coming here today."
Friday December 20 is the deadline for normal delivery if you want your packages to make it to your love ones in time for Christmas.
