A vote for funding of a new children's detention center is on the agenda for a special meeting of the county legislature Thursday at 6:30 a.m. Democrats are blasting the vote, saying republicans included the funding in the upcoming capital budget at the last minute.
The detention center on Westfall Road is closing to make room for a new COSTCO store. The county is in negotiations to move the site to existing space within the state juvenile facility in Rush.
Democrats in the legislature say the county administration is intentionally creating a crisis by adding the funding to the capital budget, which democrats have already voted down.
