A somber vigil was held Friday night to remember the life of a little boy who died tragically after playing in the snow. Ten-year-old Cory Denoncourt was seriously injured Wednesday after he became trapped in a snow pile while playing with a friend. He died Thursday evening at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Friends and family gathered outside of Cory's apartment complex in Greece on Friday. They lit candles and laid out stuffed animals in his honor. Some people held signs and signed pictures as a way to comfort each other. We spoke with Cory's mom who says she can not thank the community enough for all their support.
"I am so touched by what this community is doing for me and my family and Cory," says Anne Marie Denoncourt. "Cory was a special little boy and loved, as I can see, by so many people."
Cory donated an artificial tree to his classroom at Craig Hill Elementary for the holiday season. His classmates say they're thinking of keeping the tree all year long and decorating it for the different seasons.
