We told you earlier this week that former Rochester Police Chief Cedric Alexander would not be coming back to the Flower City despite rumors that he may return.

Alexander is the police chief in Dekalb County, Georgia. There was speculation he would return, but mayor-elect Lovely Warren says Rochester can not compete with his salary in Georgia.

Warren spoke with us Friday about the search.

She says, "I want to make sure that the next chief is someone who can carry out the complete mission of working with the community. As well as working within the department and the ranks that have the respect of the officers and are able to build that type of rapport. Because it's a process that has to happen and it's not something that is going to be done overnight."

Michael Ciminelli will take over as the interim police chief at the beginning of the year. Right now, Ciminelli is the deputy chief of the Administration bureau.
