The Rochester Fire Department says the Arson Task Force has charged a man for arson, following a two-alarm fire earlier this week.
Firefighters say 32-year-old Jacob Lesure, of Rochester, is charged with arson in the fourth degree and criminal trespassing related to that fire at 150 University Avenue on Wednesday. Calls for that fire went out just before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. When crews arrived, they found flames coming from two floors of a vacant boarding house. Officials say the fire burned through the building, which was heavily damaged and had to be demolished.
Lesure was found on the ground near the building after he jumped from the third floor to escape the fire. He was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
Officials say he was in the building to escape the cold weather and started a fire to stay warm. Investigators say the fire he started on the third floor was reckless in nature.
He will be arraigned in city court Saturday morning.
