It was a very special return home for more than 100 local soldiers Saturday.
Members of the Army National Guard's locally-based military police company arrived in Rochester Saturday afternoon following a deployment to Qatar, where they've been for the past year.
News10NBC spoke with family members who say the timing of all of this couldn't have been better.
"It's even more special, because to me it's a time where people are gathered together and share the joy of the season and the spirit, and I think the spirit of our troops is so important in our country and we need to support them,” said MaryAnne Smith, a mother of one of the returning soldiers.
This was the second time this unit had been deployed. In 2011, the soldiers also worked to help people in the Long Island area clean up in the wake of Hurricane Irene.
