Tuesday marks one year since a fire and shooting left a lasting impact on our community.

A group of West Webster firefighters were ambushed while responding to a fire on Lake Road.

Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka died in the line of duty. Fellow firefighters Ted Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter were injured.

On Sunday, firefighters dedicated a memorial behind the West Webster Fire Department. The memorial honors Chiapperini and Kaczowka, as well as other firefighters who lost their lives.

This memorial will be open to the public for two hours on Tuesday. A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 6:00 a.m. The memorial will be open to the public beginning at 8:00 a.m.

News 10NBC Today will have complete coverage of the remembrances beginning Tuesday morning.
