A local tradition, to be sure everyone has a hot meal, and someone to spend Christmas with.
Patty's Place restaurant in Canandaigua opened its doors Wednesday to provide a free Christmas meal to anybody who wanted it.
This is the 19th year for the free feast, and it's become a special event for those who come for the meal. It's all made possible by volunteers from the community.
Organizer Steve Carhart says, "Some people can't afford a nice meal and they bring their kids in and its the highlight of their day. It's a melting pot of sorts, mostly from right in Canandaigua and a lot of people come and help. The helpers here and volunteers are mostly regulars that come in and have breakfast during the year."
Patty's Place is owned by Patty Hotchkiss and also offers a Thanksgiving meal every year. Patty tells News10NBC she plans to continue the holiday meals as long as she's able.
