A Canandaigua man is facing charges after sheriff's deputies say he admitted to shaking an infant.

Joshua O'Mailey, 28, of Canandaigua, is charged with reckless assault of a child.

On Christmas Eve, sheriff's deputies say three month old infant was brought to Strong Memorial Hospital after he became lethargic and refused to eat. Doctors determined that the infant suffered from two different injuries associated with a violent shaking of the child. Sheriff's deputies began investigating. They say O'Mailey subsequently admitted to investigators that he shook the child.

O'Mailey was arraigned in Canandaigua Town Court and sent to the Ontario County Jail in lieu of bail. He will appear in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date.

The infant is still recovering at Strong Memorial Hospital.
