Some African Americans in our community are continuing the celebration of Kwanzaa.
Friday is day two of the holiday. The second day brings the focus of self determination.
Local authors shared their life stories Friday afternoon at the Wheatley Community Library in the city. The theme is "Black to the Future” and it's about encouraging the community to focus on our youth in 2014.
"It really is about community and culture and celebrating and finding an opportunity in the end of the year when we go into reflection, to grab onto some things that you can move into the new year with,” said Reenah Golden-Collier, event organizer.
Kwanzaa was created in 1966 to reinforce seven basic values of African culture.
