Colder weather is returning to our area and it has local shelters preparing.

The Open Door Mission is issuing a cold weather alert starting Sunday night and lasting until the cold weather ends. Meteorologist Josh Nichols says he expects temperatures to drop on Monday and be in the teens for much of the week ahead. The mission says during the alert they will be providing extra beds at participating shelters.

They warn the impending low temperature poses a risk for hypothermia for any extended period of exposure. To check on the status of the alert, officials say you can call 454-6696 ext. 103 for an update each day.
