Travelers driving along the New York State Thruway will find free coffee available at any rest stop from 11 p.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday as part of a long-running New Year's Eve tradition.
Coffee, as well as hot tea, will be available at all 27 Thruway rest stops for the 43rd year in a row.
“This New Year’s Eve tradition, in partnership with Thruway travel plaza operators, is intended to remind motorists to take breaks to prevent drowsy driving on the Thruway and other roadways. Fatigue is a leading contributor to roadway accidents and making rest stops for a free hot beverage improves safety and puts drivers first,” said Thruway Authority Executive Director Thomas J. Madison.
The Thruway Authority also wants to remind travelers that they should not stop along the shoulder of the road unless it's an emergency.
