Heading to a party to celebrate the new year? If you plan on drinking and driving, you may want to think again.

The New York State Police will be out in full force, making sure drivers are not drinking and getting behind the wheel. There will be sobriety check points and an increased number of troopers on the road this weekend making sure you get from point "a" to point "b" safely.

"You will see an increased number of troopers throughout the holiday weekend, which is going to end Sunday night, Monday morning. We have had far too many fatal alcohol related crashes in this area in the last couple months or so, and we would really like to get through this weekend with out anymore,” said Trooper Mark O'Donnel, New York State Police.

Troopers want to remind you it's not just your life you might be affecting, it could be the person in your car or a stranger in another car as well.

There's a number of free services Tuesday night to get you and your friends home safe, including free rides from RGRTA.
