Want to get an up-close, in-person look at a famous New Year's Eve ball? Then head to New York's Southern Tier, not New York City's Times Square.

The Star-Gazette of Elmira reports that the museum gift shop at the Corning Museum of Glass is displaying a 2-foot-by-2-foot section of a Waterford Crystal panel that was part of a past Times Square ball.

The section is made up of 51 intricately carved triangle panels that was part of the huge globe that was dropped in Times Square on a past New Year's Eve.

Although the Times Square New Year's Eve ball is on public view year-round, it's perched atop a Manhattan roof. The Waterford item is on display at the Corning museum can be viewed until the second week of January.
