U.S. Senator Charles Schumer was in the area calling for two foreign trade zones to be created. One of those is in Ontario County.
Schumer was at Crosman Corporation, pushing the trade zones, saying they would bring jobs from Asia to the U.S. Those trade zones keep customs duties low to level the playing field with foreign businesses.
They would allow Crosman to create up to 25 new manufacturing opening over the next three years and increase trade with China.
Senator Charles Schumer said, "More jobs for one of Ontario County's best most conscientious and largest employers. We have the opportunity to bring more jobs here to Crosman, and I have worked with them over the last couple of years and we have seen how they have done everything they can to bring jobs from china, to the Rochester area."
The foreign trade zone board, which is under the jurisdiction of the Commerce Department, estimated it could take until June or beyond to finalize and approve the Ontario County trade zones and the Crosman subzone.
