Staying safe while snowmobiling

Created: 01/06/2014 6:47 AM WHEC.com

With all the snow we have a lot of people are breaking out their snowmobiles. Unfortunately there have been several deadly crashes including one in Wayne County. So what should you know to keep yourself safe?

The vice president of the Webster Ridge Runners, a snowmobile club, says the key is to use common sense. That means wear a helmet, make sure your snowmobile is working properly and obey the same laws as you would on the road. That includes not drinking and driving.

The Webster Ridge Runners also emphasize wearing appropriate clothing for the weather.

Dennis Landry said, “You want to be dressed warm, everyone should have a helmet and just basically watch where you are going and use common sense. A lot of the laws of the road apply to snow mobiles.”
