A Steuben County grandmother is facing assault charges following a child custody dispute.
State Police tell News10NBC 25-year-old Jonathan Tyler went to the home of 59-year-old Edith Plummer, his child’s grandmother, to pick up his child for a court-ordered visitation Saturday afternoon. According to investigators when Tyler arrived, Plummer refused to give him the child and ordered him off the property.
Troopers say when Tyler refused to leave, Plummer kicked him several times and when Tyler still didn't leave, she got a small sledge hammer and hit him in the chest. Police say Tyler was able to disarm Plummer and call 911. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Plummer was arraigned on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon and released. She is due back in court at a later date.
