The bitter cold is also causing some concerns for a portion of the former Irondequoit mall. Town officials say they are keeping a close eye on the Medley Centre's water pump station.
There are fears that the structure could collapse or cause damage to nearby buildings including the Target store.
Irondequoit Town Supervisor Adam Bello says the issue is because there are large crack on the outside of the facility and there is a lack of heat inside.
"We have town codes in place for a reason, to keep people safe and to protect property and neighboring property, and no other business owner or resident in town would be allowed to have code violations on their property like this that could potentially hurt other people or impact properties, and this property is no different," said Bello.
Bersin Properties, the owner of the Medley Centre, says they have a contractor working to take care of the problems in that building and that they have been in contact with town officials.
