The deep freeze across the country is having a big impact on flights here at the Greater Rochester Int'l Airport. There were dozens of delays and cancellations for cities like Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Atlanta, Chicago and Toronto.
News10NBC met one woman who has been trying to go back home to France for days.
Anne-Marie Brennan, lives in France, said, “They told me to go to Buffalo by car Wednesday morning at 5:30, then go down to New York, then fly to France. Now Buffalo's not possible. So now I have to wait until Friday to go to D.C. and then to Paris, so I hope so.”
The airport says the cancellations here in Rochester are mainly because of a domino effect. When the major hubs in New York, Boston and Chicago closed, that means planes weren't coming in to Rochester. Fewer planes in means fewer planes out. But the airport says they have crews working on keeping the runways clear so they can get as may flights out as possible and there are people here who have flights running on time.
Sherry Arviso said, “I was expecting a delay. I was expecting long lines. I'm here over two hours early. Headed to San Diego, 70-80 degrees.”
News10NBC will continue monitoring these delays and cancellations.
