New York lawmakers say a pilot program, putting Greek yogurt in schools, is expanding.
They say four additional states will be putting Greek yogurt in lunchrooms during the next school year. The pilot program is run by the USDA.
New York was chosen as one of four states to participate back in July of 2013. Senator Charles Schumer talked to us about the program today.
"In all 4 states, the kids loved the Greek yogurt, the schools found it easy to serve and the next step will be to expand the number of schools and different states that can purchase Greek yogurt with their school lunch money," said Schumer.
According to the lawmakers, New York leads the country in production of Greek yogurt.
