Thousands of toys that you donated during the holiday season last year will soon be on their way to children in need.

On Saturday Gary the Happy Pirate and the rest of the Pirate Toy Fund gang held their annual toy sorting event at their warehouse on Clay Road.

Gary told News10NBC they surpassed their goal, collecting 17,000 toys during the News10NBC Pirate Toy Fund Drive alone. This puts the number of toys collected to just over the 34,000 mark for the year.

All of those toys will be given in the coming year to children in need and agencies that help children.

"There are so many people that are without, and we try to reach a lot of the agencies that work with people that have needs, and it seems like the need is getting greater and greater. As much as you try to take care of everybody, you know some people get missed, but we're hoping this year to get some toys out to the community, because it's important to the kids. It brings a smile to them and it helps them with whatever they're going through,” said Gary the Happy Pirate.

Gary and the crew asked us to pass on a big thank you for your generosity.
