You'll probably notice them on your drive to work. Those nasty potholes are all around Rochester. The Department of Transportation says they are seeing potholes popping up a little earlier this year.
DOT officials say the temporary material doesn't last long and the permanent hot mix isn't produced until asphalt plants open in March. DOT officials say they are doing the best they can in the meantime.
The right lane on 490 out near Churchville was closed due to the rough conditions and because drivers were swerving to avoid holes causing safety concerns. The lane is closed until longer-lasting repairs can be made.
Drivers can call the 1800 POTHOLE hotline from anywhere in the state to make a report.
