A New York woman who claimed she stabbed her boyfriend in self-defense has been found guilty of manslaughter.
Jennifer Marchant faces five to 25 years in prison after being found guilty in Niagara County Court on Wednesday. A jury deliberated for less than two hours.
The 24-year-old told police she stabbed 24-year-old Ralph Stone Jr. once in the chest last year because he was chasing her around their apartment in a drunken rage. The 220-pound victim's blood-alcohol content was .285 percent, more than three times the legal threshold for drunken driving.
Marchant's attorney, Dominic Saraceno, told The Buffalo News that he was disadvantaged by New York's law on self-defense, which requires a person to retreat unless facing deadly physical force.
